So convention season is starting and now is the time to prep for the perfect display of your artwork. The most important thing one needs to know is that Presentation Is Key. You need to be professional yet appealing so that your work does all the talking. Here are few tips to try.
1. Have a banner. It’s easier to notice a person when there is a beautiful banner filled with vivid colors behind the booth. I spot these from an aisle away. It’s best to have a banner stand than a hanging banner because sometimes space is limited and you may have to share a table or booth. I’m sure the number one reason why people don’t have banners is because they cost money. Remember, it takes money to make money.
2. Use a table throw. A naked table is like exposing the mechanics of a car. Don’t show them what’s under the hood! Plus, the table throw has many functions – hides your equipment, gives you a place to hang your banner and makes your table stand out when using a vibrant color.
3. Use sign holders. You can buy these at any Staples or Office Max stores. These are great to show your items that are on sales. Also, try using various sizes. This will give your table a range of depth.
4. Don’t ever handwrite anything. If you are selling a product and need to display prices, sales, description, etc, always type them beforehand. Sloppy handwriting shows your lack of effort and your carelessness for the appearance of your booth.
5. Have a beautiful portfolio. Portfolios are the number one thing people like to see. Feel free to divide your work as well. For example, you can have a book of horror images and another book of female fatale. This way you can have more than one viewer at the same time.
6. Show all your work. Neatly display all your items on the table. Don’t leave anything out or underneath the table except for extras.

Belkis –
Good stuff, per usual.
Any tips for creators participating in free comic book saturday? or is it “all of the above”?
btw – I will be doing a bi-weekly column for InvestComics. Would like to interview YOU at some point for a post. Would you be up for it if I emailed you some questions?
best,

Hi Bob,
Free Comic Book Day is coming soon and I would just like to add one more thing. When you display your name, display the name of your creation too. After a while all names start to sound the same so in order for you to stand out give the name of the comic book. This will make it easier for the audience to remember you and your work.
Yes, Bob! I would love an interview. Just email me the questions when you can.
Thanks,
Belkis
