Want to Know First-Hand What It Takes to Showcase Your Films?

peppernegronPepper Negron is a New York filmmaker who has showcased his work in various venues. Most recently, his shorts have appeared in Latin Horror’s Horrorphile, a film event celebrating Hispanic horror flicks. His movies have received many positive reviews and he took some time out of his busy schedule to enlighten us about his work of art.

BelkisNYC: Why did you decide that you wanted to be a filmmaker?

PNegron: As a little boy I was always in love with movies. Being a visual artist, weather it was drawing, doing photography, the material I read (books/magazines) all of these things were part of my dreaming of becoming a filmmaker.

After doing odd jobs I realized that filmmaking was going to be where I needed to be. As a director I get to work with a team of creative talent, such as actors, cinematographers, makeup artist, set designers, editors, etc. …  Every day on the set or location is always a different challenge. It’s a new and great experience every time. I realized this is the type of job I need to be doing as a writer / director.

BelkisNYC: You are a local New York filmmaker. How has the city inspired you to create your films?

PNegron: As for inspiration? It comes mostly from women, music and colors … although the energy here in New York City is just amazing for me.

BelkisNYC: You are also of Hispanic decent. Tell me how that plays a role in your professional life?

PNegron: I don’t have a problem with that at all … I love all kinds of people. My work is across the board commercial, I don’t conform my self or my work into a box … I live in a city with all kinds of people and my experiences are different from someone who consumes him/her self with the race game.

In the end, I’m a filmmaker and my stories are for everyone. blooddrips

BelkisNYC: In early April, your short film, “Blood Drips,” premiered at the Latin Horror’s HORRORPHILES. Tell us about the film and the venue.

PNegron: The venue was great, they showcased about six short films and one feature film, kind of like a film festival event, but for only one night. The reception and the screening of “BLOOD DRIPS” were pretty impressive. At the opening of my film the applause from the audience were amazing. I really never experience a moment like that. And after the film ended, again the applause, wow… I was surprise and greatly filled with astonishment.

The film “BLOOD DRIPS” is a short that will be included in a DVD collection of seven dark tales written and directed by me titled “DARK TALES OF TORTURED SOULS”.

“BLOOD DRIPS” is a story of a woman (BARBARA JIMENEZ) who has thoughts of committing suicide, the visual is told over an original poem read by poet (MIA ROMAN HERNANDEZ) and an original musical piece composed & arranged by Capri and myself.  The film is basically driven in movement to the poem and music.

“BLOOD DRIPS” music is one of the arrangements included in our CD project, Luis Capri Duprey and myself are composing a musical CD with all original dark musical compositions. The CD is tentatively titled GOTHIC MELODIES and our name as composers … well, … DARK COMPOSERS.

instillnessilieBelkisNYC: There is another film called, “In Stillness I lie.” I saw the poster. Looks very good. Tell us about that film too.

PNegron: “IN STILLNESS I LIE” will also be included in the DVD collection. This is a story of a woman Tatiana, (MERCEDES LEBRÓN) who’s lock up in an asylum. The story is told by our narrator (AMANDA NICOLE TROYA) in a poetic tale that blends fantasy and reality with forms that derive from Tatiana’s suffering and desperation of her mind.

Most recently this short film was premiere during the weekend of April 24th for viewers to see on the internet which was hosted by www.thelastblogontheleft.com and they also conducted a live on-line interview with me and their listeners.

BelkisNYC: I see you are using social media to promote your films.  Which ones have given you a big boost?

PNegron: The internet has been an amazing source of promoting my self & my work … and personally I don’t think we’ve come close to what’s in the future for and with the internet service.  For an artist it’s an amazing tool, a great way to network, promote and create a fan base …

I’ve used sites like Facebook and MySpace for my film work and other sites like Model Mayhem for my photography work … I’ve met some amazing talent within the industry using social links to cross promote, and yes, I’m working on designing my own web site as well.

BelkisNYC: Besides the social networking, how else do you promote your work?

PNegron: Industry parties, events, post card mailings and word of mouth.

BelkisNYC: What is your ultimate goal as a filmmaker?

PNegron: My goal is to shoot my first two feature screenplays, which we are shopping right now … “TORN SIGNPOST” and “HIGH HATS” … to see both of them at the theaters … to be a great filmmaker.

I’m also developing more feature screenplays that I’ve written treatments for thus far.

But I do not want to abandon the though of not doing short films. I already have more ideas for another collection of shorts for  “DARK TALES OF TORTURED SOULS” VOLUME II.

BelkisNYC: Any tips for young filmmakers trying to get into the industry?

PNegron: As a new filmmaker they should direct the material they feel most passionately about – and in the tone and genre they want to pursue.

As a new comer shoot a short film, this is your calling card, it does not matter what you shoot on, if your story works, format is often irrelevant.

Nothing can deny your passion.

BelkisNYC: Final thoughts or comments?

PNegron: Be impeccable with your word. Don’t take anything personally. Don’t make assumptions and always do your best.

Doing your best is about trusting in yourself and trusting in creation. No decision is right or wrong, what matters is the action that follows your choice. Everything in life is a choice. You control your life, your dreams by making choices.

Thank you Belkis for your friendship, love and support, and to all my fans a big hug.

LOV U FROM HERE …

LOV U FROM THERE …

LOV U SINCERELY …

LOV U TO DEATH …
