A few weeks ago while I was talking with my client who is a non-profit organization about their Facebook Page, I mentioned to study Coca-Cola’s page. Someone in the group told me that we couldn’t compare ourselves to a brand like Coca-Cola because they have been around for years. While this is true, my argument was not to be like Coca-Cola but to look at how they are gaining and engaging fans. Any company can do this. Sure, most likely you won’t be able to come close to their fan base (they have approximately 3 million fans) but you can learn how to make fans want to visit you.
1. Use the discussion board. The discussion board ranges from questions about certain products to polls and surveys. Essentially, they are asking fans about their opinions, ideas and thoughts making fans feel important and part of a bigger picture.
2. Fan Photo Fun. Fans are allowed to send their coca-cola moments. All they have to do is upload a photo to Facebook and let Coca-Cola know. For instance, today is Tattoo Tuesday! Can’t wait to see those pictures!
3. Video Sharing. Fan can upload videos from their favorite commercials or can make their own for other fans to watch.
4. Use Humor. Fan page creators Dusty Sorg and Michael Jedrzejewski show their funny side by posting photos of themselves with Coca-cola products and showing fans how they came up with the Coca-Cola Fan page by creating a video reenacting the whole experience. Check it out here.
5. The Wall. Talk about good use of space. Just scroll down and see what fans have to say about coke. You can see recently uploaded videos, pictures and comments. For Coke, the wall doesn’t serve as only updates but as a collection of opinions around the world. People like to read other people’s thoughts as well.
So, here’s a toast to Coca-Cola. For making fans feel special by letting THEM talk about Coke.
Do you think they are doing a job?
