You sent out press releases, newsletters, updates. You even go to social events like conventions and art gallery openings. You do everything so that people know your work. Chances are people will praise you and know that you exist through your efforts. Kudos to you! However, a more effective way to get people to be aware of your work is going to them directly.
Target one person that is in publishing or in media. It can be a blogger, editor, podcaster, etc. Tell them who you are and what you are doing. Ask them if you can be interviewed or send them a newsletter. The worst that can happen is that they say no. However, most of the time I find that people will always have a friendly and positive response. Don’t be afraid to seek help. If you see a website or magazine that you know will be a perfect place to advertise yourself, then approach them and let them know who you are. Just like you want to be found, those outlets want to be found, too. So, show them that you know about them and that you think highly of their production. What do you have to lose?

great suggestions as always!
