As the New York Comic Con is getting closer, you should be thinking about how to prep for one of the biggest conventions in the nation. Chances are, you probably have been here before but so has everyone else. It’s time to figured out what you should update, toss out or add into your presentation.
1. Add new work. Believe it or not, I have been going to this convention religiously for the past four years and there are many artists who have not updated their portfolio or artwork. What have you been doing? You simply can’t show up every year with the same stuff over and over. It’s sinful and lazy. Get your pencils out and start working.
2. Update your website. It’s refreshing when you see new things and that doesn’t only include what is in front of you. Some people will like your work so much they will look you up 2 or 3 months from now. So make sure you update your site with fresh work, news, blog posts, etc.
3. New banners and signs. Have you been using the same banner/signs for years? Guess what. It may be time for an upgrade. The issue is that when people see the same thing over and over again you simply tend to ignore it after awhile. Like I said, chances are the same crowd will be there so you need to keep those people interested in you so that they keep coming back.
4. Get the word out. You need to let as many people as possible know that you will be there. Ask bloggers to write an article about you or create a Facebook event for your NYC friends. Better yet, personally invite them to the show. Let me know where exactly you are going to be and tell them to stop by and say hi. Every little bit helps.
Any other tips on how to prep for this event?
